Whew! It is HOT today! Swackett keeps cheerfully informing me that the local "feels like" temperature is 112 degrees, and the little shadow people have stripped down to shorts and bathing suits. I'm not complaining though--we have air conditioning (best invention EVER .. besides anesthetics and penicillin, anyway), and at least it's a dry heat.

After putting out nearly 100 applications, I actually got a call back! The job, however, is in Santa Barbara. And it is only one day per week. The interview is on Monday. At this point, I'll drive to the moon if it means getting a job ... any job. My job on Monday is to convince the office that it will be NO PROBLEM for me to make a two hour commute each week. To be honest, if I was offered at least one day more a week anywhere in the Santa Barbara area, I would just move. The office, from what I could gather from their website/internet reviews, looks very nice, good dentist, etc. I'm hoping desperately my lack of experience won't be held too heavily against me--they were the ones that called me, after all, and so should know from my resume what I have and haven't done.

In an effort to spruce myself up a bit I went down to the M.A.C. store and had them to a full makeover on me. I lucked out with an awesome girl who knew exactly what I was looking for and gave me lots of practical advice and a good, natural look. I took all my catsitting money from the past three years and bought an obscene amount of makeup so I can look pretty during my interviews. Then I wen't down to a hair/makeup studio down the street and had the hairdresser show me HOW to do my hair! I told her I was completely clueless--didn't even know how to use a hairdryer (didn't even *own* a hairdryer). She was awesome too--plunked me down in front of a mirror and whipped up four nice looks using curling irons, straight irons, and a rubber band. She made me do each one myself until she was satisfied. I have skillz now people! XD

Oh, and Macy's was having some sort of insane sale on every item last week, so I wandered through the store picking up earrings and "professional" attair for ridiculous prices. They were having a reduction for opening a Macy's card, too. I'm firm to my committment of having only one credit card, so I had to keep turning people down ("15% off today! Are you sure you don't want to open one?") By the fifth person I had figured out that I probably *should* have opened one, and then just closed it later if I wanted, but I was buying my last item and it didn't seem worth it at that point.

I have been doing more than shopping and preening! For example, I brushed the cat! And cleaned my room. And applied for job after job after job after job after job. It's just a little discouraging. I found a job I REALLY REALLY want--randomly, in Santa Barbara again--working the dental clinic of the UCSB Student Health Center three times per week. I love working with college students, and I always wanted to work in a student health center--so few of them have dental clinics. They had a long, standardized application online, which took me about two hours to fill out. I just wanted to reach through the screen and grab the hiring manager and say "hire me! I *really* want this job! I've always wanted this job! And I could work four days per week in Santa Barbara and actually be able to afford to live there! PLEASE!" I imagine someone reading my application and getting a vague feeling of pathetic desperation. Hopefully it won't count against me.

Sasha is looking incredibly cute curled up in a little fluff ball in her cat bed. Pretty kitty; I'm so lucky to have her ♥

Oh wow, two hours driving for one day of work? I'm crossing my fingers that better job opportunities are returned calls to you, or that there might be the chance of getting more days in Santa Barbara!

I have to laugh a little as you describe your make up and hair adventures. I'm quite pleased with my own make up routine, but I have little to no skills with my hair too. I have a hair dryer, but I use it so infrequently. LOL

Keep thinking cool thoughts!

I actually had to practice my hair tonight. My Dad thought I was crazy, but I told him being a girl takes a lot of hard work! Or at least impressing a fancy office does.

I have no idea how this driving so insanely far away thing is going to work--I'm sort of conveniently putting that off until I find out if I get the job or not. Obviously a full time position within a reasonable distance would be ideal, but apparently those jobs are *really* really REALLY hard to get. So we'll see. This dentist's office is surrounded by other dentists, so I'm sort of wondering/hoping they might be a source of jobs too.

Then I start freaking about actually MOVING. I have been living at home wayyyyy too long. It's always hard for me to move--no matter where I am, I get so attached.

Practice makes perfect after all! :D

Well, I hope that something works out for you - closer to home, or not!

Oh, you and me both. Except I'm not so much freaking out, it's more like trying to save up money to move out, and not succeeding to well. It seems like there's always something else I need to pay for!
